The name Kernoustie? Well it's a Scottish Thing!

Pronounced Kerr (like the canning jar), then new, then stee. Kerr-new-stee.

Kernoustie Golf Club carries on the tradition of golf in the Mount Vernon area dating back to 1914 when local golf enthusiasts laid out golf holes just west of Cornell College. The course was moved north of town until the effects of WW2 closed down operations. After the war, the desire for a new course rekindled and resulted in the current location operating as Hillcrest Country Club from 1953 until 2012 when Mark and Peggy Kerr of Mount Vernon bought the golf course.
